THE AID FOR
TRAUMATIZED CHILDREN  PROJECT
OF THE WORLD DREAMS PEACE BRIDGE

Introduction

The Aid for Traumatized Children Project began at the time of "Shock and Awe" in 2003, when members of The World Dreams Peace Bridge began dreaming of the children of Iraq. Our intent since then has been to provide direct, person-to-person support to the children, who are the innocent victims of war.

Since 2003, the Aid for Traumatized Children Project has provided over $40,000 in assistance to programs in Iraq dedicated to helping the children: primarily Seasons Art School in Baghdad and the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder project begun by Drs. Ali Rasheed and Wisal Aldouri. From the time that both of these programs were closed in 2006, due to unsafe conditions in Baghdad, the AFTC program has focused on the plight of Iraqi refugee children in Jordan, particularly through the Webdah School. For more about the AFTC project...

Many people have joined us in providing aid to the children of Iraq. Particular thanks go to:

Voices for Creative Nonviolence www.vcnv.org
The Carlos and Deborah Santana Milagro Foundation www.milagrofoundation.org
The Iraqi Children's Art Exchange http://www.iraqichildrensart.org/current.html
Students in the Iraqi Youth Exchange, Vermont

World Dreams Peace Bridge member Kathy Turner, from Australia, has compiled a brief report with additional bibliography. Cathy Breen, of Voices for Creative Nonviolence and The Catholic Worker, reports from Amman. More...

" For myself, after my initial contribution I plan to send in a little more each month. For $10 we can put in the arms of a toddler in the refugee camps a soft little Teddy Bear or a clever Rabbit, for the child to cuddle and tell her/his woes to; to have a bosom friend in times of trauma; or, a box of crayons to release his/her ideas and emotions; or, a little book that has no words to make up their own stories of their experiences.....".
