Pledge Drive 2005

Incubating a Dream In Dream?

Abundance Meditation

Welcome to the Dream In Kickoff to the Annual Pledge Drive of the International Association for the Study of Dreams.

What Is A Dream In?

A Dream In is not a contest; nor is it a solitary activity. It is a way of dreaming together.  In this case, we are going to dream together during the rest of November for the prosperity of IASD, as this Dream In is the kickoff for the annual Pledge Campaign. You can think of this as a new way of fund raising and fun raising.

Who can participate?  Anyone can dream along.  For those who would like to incubate a dream, we have provided a beautiful, dream-inducing slide show created by Liz Diaz.  Watch the show before you go to sleep and focus your consciousness on dreaming about IASD's continued growth.

Sometimes people dream at a time other than the designated one.  That's fine.  Dream In dreams could happen any time between now and the end of the year. Whenever your Dream In dream happens, you can submit your dream results to the Dream Bowl below.

Making a Pledge, a Pledge Challenge or a Donation

This has been a special year for IASD, as you can see from the 2005 Pledge Letter.  For continued growth in 2006, we hope you will send a pledge or donation as well as your dreams.  Pledge Challenges are part of the fun of the Pledge Drive.  These can be submitted to the Dream Bowl as well.  Or you might find yourself inspired to Make A Donation.  IASD is an international, charitable (nonprofit), 501c3 organization. All donations are tax deductible.

2005 Pledge Letter

Here is a copy of the Pledge Letter which was sent to all members of IASD.  Take a look at the successes of 2005 and the organizational goals for 2006.

November 2005

Dear IASD Member,

IASD Central Office Thanks to your generous support, IASD has blossomed during 2005.  With the move to a new office location in Berkeley, California, and a new Administrative Officer, Richard Wilkerson, we have established a physical presence in one of the most dream-oriented locations in the world.

You are creating an abundance for IASD that allows us to expand in ways we could only dream about ten years ago.  Donations from IASD members during last year's Pledge Drive provided almost $10,000 for program expansion, for publications, conference scholarships, low income memberships, and support for the Nightmare Hotline.

Through your help, we were able to fund nine conference scholarships for international presenters and student volunteers.  The establishment of student research and creativity awards (funded again for 2006 by one member) allows us to recognize the important work of young artists and scholars.  Your support has allowed us to complete the application through which IASD has attained providership for the American Psychological Association's Continuing Education Programs for psychologists.  And even now, IASD programs are being designed to explore provision of online CEUs.

This year, the IASD Board of Directors, committed to 100% participation in this Pledge Campaign, has added two innovation: One is to set a year-end goal of $12,000 in donations (which we, of course, would like to exceed); the other is the enclosed Office Wish List, through which we hope to find donors for needed office materials and equipment.  All donations to IASD are tax deductible for members in the United States.

Don't miss the fun of sharing in the Online Dream In and Pledge Challenge at http://www.iasdreams.org/, where you'll be able to see funding grow on the Pledge Thermometer, or consider meeting 2006 conference host Curtiss Hoffman's "Dollar A Dream" challenge.

This year, donating to IASD is easier than ever.  Due to our move to an online database management system, Kintera, you can not only make a donation online, but can select a monthly withdrawal from your credit card if you prefer.  Remember also that IASD can be named as the recipient of funds requested through your United Way campaign or other fundraising drives done at school or work.

Thank you so much for what you do.  Our dreams are our tomorrow.

Jean Campbell, Chair
IASD Development Committee

IASD OFFICE WISH LIST

Dear Member,
As you know, IASD now has an office in Berkeley, California. To help make
this a fully operational center for dreams and dreaming, we are including a
Wish List in hopes you will be able to contribute. Please contact Richard
Wilkerson,
office@asdreams.org  before sending donated items to avoid
duplication.
  • Bookcases:  We now have two, but need two more.
  • Desk Lamp.   It is a little dark in the office and even the yellow walls and two lights we have are not always enough to illuminate books and papers on the table.
  • File hangers and folders. Colored if you have them!
  • Head Phones:  One of the main projects coming up next year will be collecting old conference tapes into usable collections, such as dreams and  anthropology, dreams and science, spiritual dreamwork, classic dreamwork, lucid dreaming and so on. Students and volunteers will be listening to tapes and rating them for these collections. We need a couple sets of nice head phones so they can rate quality of the tapes as well as content.
  • Media Supplies. When we put the audio tapes back online and convert them to digital CD, we will need blank tapes and CD's.  The office also used blank CD for archiving.  We may also start producing DVD's and may need blank DVDs.
  • CD Labels, labeling software/hardware, and cases. This will help us sell and distribute IASD conference tapes.
  • Fire-proof safe.   It would be nice to have a little safe in the office that could protect essential IASD document from fire.
  • Shredder.   Personal information like credit cards are not kept in the IASD office and continually need to be destroyed and protected.
  • The IASD office will annually purchase new software from TechSoup for substantial discounts. But it isn't free.
  • One of the major ongoing operations costs in the IASD office is printer ink. The office can easily go through $30 of ink a month when we are printing up cards and letters to lapsed members.
  • Each new year we put the IASD info into about 5 or 6  white three ring binders. This includes banking, database costs and info, grants, credit card information and other records. Plastic inserts  (for 8 1/2 x 11) are used to organize the information.
Monthly Office Services (approx)
Rent & Utils $430
Phone Line  $ 30
Internet/DSL Line $ 25
Accessline Phone Service accounts 2 x $ 25
Net1 Processing Credit Cards $ 25
Kintera Database & Events Processing $100
AOL Collection account $   5

Pledge Challenges:

From Wendy Pannier:

I pledge $1 up to $1,000 for every $3 new dollars raised in this pledge campaign (donated from 12/21 forward).  If people chip in--large amounts or small--together we can move us $4,000 closer to our $12,000 goal!

Tjitske Wijngaard

When we acquired a real physical office and a wonderful person to man it (sorry for applying 'acquire' to you, Richard), lots of us were excited that now we had a physical base from where to lead IASD further into the world.

So I pledge $100 for the upkeep of the office and challenge others who were equally happy about this move to do the same - or do better of course!

From Rita Dwyer:

In late 1983 I sent in $100 to become a Founding Life Member of ASD as its California founders struggled to find funds to host the very first international dream conference in the world in 1984.  Little did I know the magic carpet ride upon which I ventured and the wondrous friends I would meet.

I pledge $100 and challenge the other Founding Life Members--and all IASD members--who have benefited from our involvement with IASD through the years--to match or move higher the $$$ amount, all funds to be used to provide membership scholarships for students or those who are unable financially to afford our dues. Let's share our wealth--it's not just about our money, but about our dreams and everyone's!

Thanks, Rita Dwyer

From Curtis Hoffman:

I have pledged "A Dollar A Dream" again this year.  My dreams from Nov. 1, 2004 - Oct. 31, 2005 numbered 561, so I have donated $561 to IASD.  I challenge everyone else to do likewise!

And - just for Richard - you can look forward to the donation of a Tiffany desk lamp for the office in the near future (yes, you know which one!)

From Ilkin Sungu

Last year I pledge 23 USD thinking I may afford it but I wasn't able to. First; I am paying this debt to IASD from last year, for general use. This year I am pledging 500 USD for a scholarship for the next Conference (I would prefer to somebody from WDPB or have a study on "peace and dreams".

By this opportunity; I want to thank once more to my 3 precious Bobs who made my dream to participate the Copenhagen Conference came true with scholarship and personal effords; Robert Waggoner, Robert Hoss and Robert Van de Castle.
